The ARE-Energy power plant supplying approximately 3.2 MW of Electric power to two parallel 2400H.P. motors is now operating on B-99 Bi0-Diesel.
In late May Cycle Systems received the proper air permits from the Virginia Dept. of Environmental Quality following EPA Guidelines to proceed with the use of B-99 bio diesel. There permits were based on results of the air emission testing in November 2007 and permit documentation of Faulkner & Flynn in February of 2008. While the NOX output was slightly higher than the air emission test of 2006 using No.2 Diesel, the overall Greenhouse Gas Emissions was much less. There are now nominal if any visual particulate emissions. Also in June 2008 the engine was updated with Tier 0 Emission camshaft and fuel injector components. The results of this update will apply to future r testing.
The shredding plant operates continuously 10-12 hours per day. Jay Brenner, Cycle Systems President commented, “The dependability and reliability of the power plant itself has been above 98%. This has made the shredding plate itself a valuable asset for us during these high commodity price periods.” |
